Raging expat debate

Maybe only Newhousenewjob will care, but at Sinosplice the combox has become an oddly intense debate over whether one should throw away their own trash at a Starbucks in China or leave it for the employees.

Thanks, Jen - a fascinating read! I had to go and look up that list of 301 ways you know you've been in China too long, and am amazed at how little has changed in the 12 years since I left - this debate being one of them. I've had Chinese friends who would deliberately throw their rubbish out of train windows "because some people who live in these areas rely on picking up that stuff and selling it to make a living". Not something I could ever do, but not clearing a table in a restaurant would be much more borderline, I think (China didn't have Starbucks when I was there, so the dilemma never arose for me).
