Only a matter of time
Tonight, right after we did our Sign of the Cross in Putonghua, Myles announced that we would not be saying the Hail Mary in English for his night prayers. He was going to pray in Dingdonghua. Yes that language based on nothing has the vocabulary to pray. He said he was praying the "Our Father." A few times he said a phrase or two in English, followed by the Dingdonghua translation.
And Jesus in Dingdonghua is "Ji Jou," with the first syllable rhyming with the first syllable in the English pronunciation. In Mandarin, by the way, He is Ye Su.

Jesus is also known in Mandarin as Jidu (hence 'Jidujiao' - 'Christianity'). This sounds a bit closer to the Dingdonghua translation. I'd love to hear Miles speaking Dingdonghua - it sounds fascinating.
