Funny, isn't it
That Labour Day in countries like China is the same day as the feast of St. Joseph the Worker? I know it isn't a coincidence, but I couldn't help chuckling to myself throughout the day over it.
With Randy in the States, missing out on his holiday, and some of my friends away in Hong Kong for the holiday, Myles and I have been pretty much alone. We have had to work hard at avoiding the crowds of tourists that descend upon local places, like Hai Shang Shi Jie, who like to see and photograph the foreigners.
It began yesterday afternoon. We were blowing bubbles near Starbucks. Then they started to come up, sometimes in large groups even, trying to take pictures of Myles. Well, of him and when he wouldn't cooperate this giant white dog this woman was walking.
When people have asked me what I did today, I have told them I tried to hide in plain sight where no one expects to see foreigners. Like today in the big Book City and then later on the Metro, we still got a lot of stares, but not once did we get stopped to be photographed with the grandmother, the kids, the aunties.....the whole family.

Last year I used to wonder if people took the pictures home and exaggerated our meeting. Often people wanted pictures of their kid shaking my kid's hand.
