Another benefit of large families
At thirty (cough cough) something I am still welcoming new baby cousins into this world! I got this email from my Grandma today:
Michael Eric Mateer was welcomed into our family at 10:35 am today, weighing 8lbs. 1oz., 201/2 inches long.
Anne Marie and baby are doing very well, thank God.
Congratulations A.M. and Mike and big sister Elizabeth!!!!!!

If my count holds true, that's 20 grandkids for her, but I keep losing count on great-grand kids.
The other neat thin abouta large family is that you're adding first cousins that are younger than your own nieces and nephews.
So when your cousins have kids, is that where we start the "removals" or are they 2nd cousins...I get so confused.
first cousins are kids of you and your siblings. first cousins once removed are your kids and the kids of their first cousins. second cousins are the cousin's kids and your kids' kids. across generations is when people get removed.
grand total for g-ma: 21 grandkids and 5 great-grandkids (i didn't count jen's or corinne's stepkids, but i did include kari [sp], ianna, and maeve, naturally). we have two mike's now, too.
