Yesterday's New Words
jian long = stegasaurus
san jiao long = triceratops
Yesterday found us at the very large Book City in the Futian section of Shenzhen. We were shopping for a birthday present for the daughter of one of my friends. While I was looking for a specific Chinese/English storybook set, Myles browsed all the really cool Chinese children's books.
At one point he was looking through a book about dinosaurs that was in Chinese with the pinyin. No English, but the pictures were pretty clear. A Chinese boy of four years old was looking at the same book at the same time. Myles was pointing to the pictures, saying the English/Greek names of the various dinosaurs. The other boy was calling them out in Chinese. Funny, preschoolers are always interested in dinosaurs everywhere, aren't they? I wonder if the Chinese boy's mother also refers to him as the Head of Verterbrate Paleontology for their family, too.
