Textile Therapy

Myles has spent many happy hours in his army pants, in love with his army pants. I thought I might jump on this bandwagon myself to see if it would do me any good. Can you believe that just putting on these camo cargo pants I got at a Gap outlet in the states immediately puts me in an ambitious and get-out-the door mood?

For the times that I am staying indoors, I have not one but two beautiful new aprons. My friend Alyssa (whose family enjoys hot meals three times a day and frexh bread every day, who sews and paints and decorates, who also holds down a full-time job teaching piano and flute six days a week) has started in, you know, her spare time a business making beautiful and useful aprons called my Grandmother's Apron. This apron I mistakenly thought was a hostess apron. It is actually a gathering apron, with kangaroo pocket. When you are walking about the house, and see things that need to go from one room to the other, just pocket it until you get there.

This is my kitchen apron, with one pocket. She also makes a gardener's apron with multiple pockets. Did I mention she gardens and cans, too?

And since I am back in China, I immediately headed to a tailor to make some clothes for me that didn't make the trip. I needed black dress pants, and if I were going to get that, I might as well get some fancy shirt. I spent about $40 in all for this shirt and the black pants.

Yup, this is bright red and sparkly.

One thing I enjoy about my expat life here is the increased license to be so much more daring with my clothes. Most days I still dress like me,very monochromatically and loose-fitting, but when we go out to dinner with some of Randy's friends and their Chinese girlfriends, why can't I sparkle, too?
