Greetings from Hong Kong
So far, so good. We had a remarkably uneventful flight, save a few odd delays, like the Russians changing the time in which we could enter their airspace so we had to wait an extra 15 minutes on the tarmac before we could take off. I was amazed that we encountered zero turbulence. The fasten seatbelt light remained off for the entire flight.
When we got to Hong Kong, exhausted and hungry and confused about the time of day, we went to get some late dinner. Hong Kong, like New York, is a city with so many late night dinner options, we were confident we would find something. However, when we attempted to eat at our usual first choice, and Irish pub called Delaney's, we encountered something new. No children allowed. Apparently, part of the much "celebrated" tobacco ordinance enacted January 1 of this year is that if a place of business is qualified to remain a smoking establishment, no children are permitted inside. Just in case this was just their interpretation of the law, we tried to eat at another Irish pub, and it was the same thing. At Delaney's they said we might be able to get in at lunch time with Myles.
Visa applications are to be made today. Hopefully that is uneventful, too.
