Behold the power of the search engine

A few weeks ago, shortly after I arrived, I started Googling and Dogpiling, looking for other Shenzhen area bloggers. I was hoping to find another Mommy-blogger type, but I came across Chin-Chin, a blog written by a young unmarried American woman who has recently arrived here for a new job. While she isn't a Mommy-blogger, she does blog about her shoe finds. I will be living vicariously through her because she wears a smaller shoe-size than I and has already made some fantastic finds.
After exchanging some blog-comments and emails, we finally got around to meeting today at Starbucks here in Shekou. She doesn't live in Shekou like most of the other expats I meet here, so it was fun for me to introduce her to Shui Wan Tou. Great time.
This recent post of hers shows how she used googling to connect with her own local community. Maddy found a group of Jewish people in Shenzhen that gather for Shabbas! In addition to Shabbas, she knows she has a place to go for other Jewish and American holidays. As she says about Jewish folks, "What other culture opens its doors with out question?"
Hey, I'm not knocking the hospitality we've experienced at our little Chinese Catholic Church in Nantou. They have been wonderful to us. But, I must note, that instead of finding other families for us to play with, Myles has collected more 20-something Chinese girl admirers who are much to anxious to spoil him by keeping their purses stocked with his favorite candies.
