What we didn't do in NYC

No, we didn't do any 9/11 things while we were up there. I would have felt like we were crashing someone's funeral. In fact, we steared pretty clear of downtown the entire time we were there. Collette had a day off on Monday, and since she lived 9/11 (she was on the Downtown N train when the first plane hit), she had no desire to go through it again. And then the whole feeling of spying on others' grief would have been very weird. We went to Central Park instead, which Myles enjoyed immensely. He got to ride the subway, play at a playground, and just have a great time.
Two of the artists in Collette's show had come up from Texas. They did go downtown to check out the observances. One, Tierney, told me that what he found so fascinating was the debate and protests that went on around the solemn ceremonies. There were anti-War folks, and counter-protestors. Street preachers saying the end was near. I didn't see this on CNN and maybe you did, so it isn't nwes to you. I know that at one time in my life I, too, would have been fascinated with these scenes. But these days, I am more interested in other things, like watching my boy watch ducks.
Is that wrong?
