Sad evening in Pittsburgh

Shortly before 9 o'clock this evening, Mayor Bob O'Connor died. I had just turned to watch Law & Order and saw that the local channel 11 was into their newscast. Channel 2 also broke into programming. Channel 4 flashed the news on the bottom of the screen, but did not interrupt 20/20. Odd. David Johnson on channel 11 looked like he might break down crying at any moment. As I flipped among these three local channels for two hours, I heard official statements from Archbishop Wuerl of D.C. and the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Channel 4 had a phone interview with Bishop Zubik of Green Bay who last spoke with O'Connor about a month ago.
Just unbelievable. His obituary is here. It mentions his son who is a priest at this parish. By the way, in one of thoese "Only in Pittsburgh" moments (that doesn't involve alcohol), several times in the past few weeks some of the TV news reports have assured us that his son was saying Mass for him in his room and he was getting communion daily.
