Homeschoolers. homeschoolers everywhere

At an art opening in Harlem, only I would strike up a conversation with strangers only to learn that they are a homeschooling family.
Yeah, this was at an event where I am sure most of the artists and guest list were blissfully childless.
I was watching Myles and two other pre-school-aged kids chase each other up and down the sidewalk. Their mother and I began talking and the subject of school came up. I asked her if her son was old enough, and she said yes and that they were planning to homeschool.
(Hello, God! Exactly what are you trying to tell me? Nope, never mind. Please don't tell me.)
Of course I was surprised, but did not let on. I asked about what curriculum they were considering, because that would probably reveal if they were Christian homeschoolers or that special breed of liberal New York homeschoolers. Of course, they were going to "unschool," and maybe participate in some sort of co-operative near them. So that didn't tell me too much. I told them that I knew that a lot of places around Pittsburgh, like our museums and our zoo, have special programs for homeschoolers that satisfy certain state curricular requirements and they might have that around them, too. She thanked me, and we watched the kids run around some more.
