Since we've come back from China, Myles speech has been peppered with many newly learned words in Putonghua (Mandarin). Everyone in the extended families is getting used to it. For instance, he's very excited whenever he sees a Mo Tou Che, let alone get to sit on one. Here he was helped onto my uncle Ted's bike (though I'll bet that Papa's are his favorites)
Watching the traffic from the porch at my aunts' house he yells for a Jing Che (police car), then a Ji Pu Che (Jeep), Ka Che (truck), and so on. Qing Guo, not cucumbers, still make him burp.
Sunday night he was playing with my cousin's two kids, JB and Harley. People kept asking me what he was saying. I was told that he was pointing to Harley as she was riding her bike and saying, "Ding Lai." What could that be in English, they asked.
I couldn't for the life of me figure it out, so I followed them outside and heard what he said. Of course, it was perfectly clear to me what he was saying.
"Green Light!"
