Stuff I cannot make up
When Myles was a timy baby and required late-night feedings, I, like a lot of people, would end up watching late-night tv, full of commercials for exercise equipment that bear resemblance to torture devices. And like many people, I wondered, who buys this stuff.
I just experienced that here in China twice in less than 10 minutes.
The first commercial was for some ugly, ugly walking shoes. In the commercial they were being modelled by pretty petite girls in short skirts or tight pants, with their hips a-swaying. Sometimes the midriffs of the girls was highlighted. The graphics promised that fat would burn (complete with flames) right off your legs, backside, and waist. And then there were before and after pictures. Ugly shoes that can make you sexy. However, they probably don't come in my size.
The second, though, totally beats anything I have seen in the US. At first there was a woman crying, seriously crying, and telling some story. I thought I was about to see Maury. She kept looking down at her chest. Apparently her life wasn't worth living because she was flat chested. Then she discovered this cream called Beauty and Breast. She rubbed it on as directed. Then the graphics showed how this potion causes the fat in your stomach to migrate up to your breasts where it belongs. This graphic was repeated several times, sometimes alternating with photographs of lingerie ads, and then video and photos of successful clients. And, in the end, the sad woman, now happy and busting out.
