Pirates make history!
Last night we went to the Pirates-White Sox game. It was the first home game sinceI've come back from China, unfortunately. I mean, I enjoy going to the park and there is a lot to enjoy about the experience that has little to do with the game. Our seats were wonderful (120's row T), and the thunderstorms that were expected to linger all evening had cleared away well before game time. It was a beautiful night for baseball.
Accompanying us was my friend Jen and her son Gabe. As I said to her, the Pirates will either win or make history. Yup, history was made.....worst Pirates losing streak since 1939!! In fact, fans at tonight's game will likely see that number change to 13-straight losses, the most since the 19th century!!! Oh, yeah. What other team can "boast" that in any pro sport?
Certainly the game was tough, and no one would expect the Pirates to beat the White Sox, even with Ian Snell pitching (did I just write that?). But there were moments, like the Sean Casey tagging Thone out at third. And Craig Wilson's home run (he's about to be traded....coincidence?). It was also very nice to hear during the player introductions that Jason Bay is leading all Outfielders in All-Star Voting, and Jack Wilson is #2 among shortstops, and Freddie Sanchez is #1 among write-ins. With that much talent on the field......well, you know.
My sister sent me a blog started by an unhappy Pirates fan (there are happy ones?). It's called Iratefans.com. Other fansites with cool names they link to include Where Have You Gone, Andy Van Slyke? and Sell the Pirates to Mark Cuban.
