Typhoon, what Typhoon?
The storm made landful in our province far enough East that all we experienced in Shekou were some gusty winds and rain all day. No evacuation necessary (which reminds of my absolute wonder at experiencing the population here when I read in a less densely populated area than shenzhen 630,000 people were evacuated!!!) I think I saw on the news on TV last night a few downed trees in Shenzhen proper, but it wasn't and English-language news.
I sent a text message to Randy yesterday morning that read, "Is it a full-blown addiction when you walk to Starbucks in a typhoon?" He said something later like I could have made coffee at home, and I told him that it wasn't me that wanted to go to Starbucks. It was Myles.
And on a related note, I do need to stand very humbly corrected. I had mis-read the news and this was not the first Typhoon that would have hit here in 17 years. It was the first one to hit in May in that amount of time. But with all the new construction, there are certainly many many buildings that have not seen that sort of weather here. Randy thinks the last direct hit to Shenzhen was like 2 years ago.
