Pope Big Daddy
Via Amy Welborn, some excellent Pope-in-Poland round-ups, but one part made me laugh. This is from John Allen (yes, the John Allen, a man so usually precise in his wording I cannot help but think this is the fault of his editors).
Okay, I think the actual Bavarian greeting is Gruss Gott (with an umlaut on the u, of course). Unless, of course, there is some sort of German pet-name for the Pope that means roughly Big Daddy.

In Czestochowa, the Poles took the initiative to break the taboo themselves, by shouting a German greeting to Benedict: Gross Gott, Heilige Vater!, meaning, "Hello, Holy Father!" in traditional Bavarian fashion.
