Trying to create normal
It's hard, when you have your schedules and rituals, to create a new normal. Usually, when you move from one place to another, you can seek out things that are like what you are used to, something to help with continuity.
Our days are nothing like ours at home. We have no library, we haven't found the museum---the nearest park has no playground, even.
Oh, but we do have one thing:
Starbucks.
Doesn't that sound ridiculously and sickeningly American? I mean, I am not one of those regular tourists who after only a week in, say, Eastern Europe, runs screaming to McDonald's because they need something---anything---American.
We are experimenting here with what it will take to live here for longer than the six weeks of this planned trip. And right now that means that the good news is that Starbucks is less than 5 blocks away.
Am I pathetic or what?
