So....are you going to go to Church while you are over there?

This is a question I was asked a lot before I left, by people who probably didn't care one way or the other but knew I cared. I would tell them I hoped to, and that I found some (very limited) information on the Catholic Church in Shenzhen, the city nearest Shekou. With all the activity with Cardinal Zen, and the negotiations with the Chinese government to formalize ties both between their own government and the Vatican and the Chinese Church with the Church of Rome---could be a fascinating time, wouldn't you think?
However, I am on a tourist visa, a guest of China. Item 5 on the visa application read that tourist visa holders should refrain from news reporting and religious activities. Like it or not, I asked to be a guest of China.
So, today I just read the lectionary readings at home.
We'll see as the rest of our stay goes if we might actually venture to one of the state-approved churches.
