Randy went to Beijing

He sent over some pictures. Afterward he wasn't exactly enthused about his visit. Something in the Beijing air aggravated his allergies, which hasn't been an issue in Shekou. Randy said he might want to see the Great Wall again, but other than that he didn't sound like Beijing would be something we would extend a lot of effor to get to see while we're over there.

Whether it’s true or not, I was told a story of how this stylized lion became the Chinese lion.
It seems that at one point a traveler described a lion to a Chinese emperor and since lions are not indigenous to China, when the emperor commissioned the sculpting of a lion it was done based on the description rather than on any observations.
That explains why they are so grotesquely out of balance
