Piratefest 2006
Has it really been a year already? This weekend we attended this year's Piratefest, an extravaganza to promote the Pirates and stimulate ticket sales. They really expanded the game offerings from last year, which was especially cool, because they apparently have a boat-load of last year's giveaways in stock. Those were the prizes--from Duck Pond to Putt Putt to Spin-the-Wheel, we walked out with two wiffle ball bat and ball sets, one mini wooden bat, at least six hard hat/batting helmets, a Roberto Clemente figurine, a Pirate Parrot Weeble, and a Cheese Chester Pierogie bobblehead.

And I saw Kip Wells. Megan and I both saw, too, John Fedko! Unfortunately, he was not there in an official capacity, so I didn't bother him for a picture. He was there herding about four or five 8-10 year-old-boys around, wearing a baseball jacket for his son's middle school team. They were briefly ahead of us in line at a game, and he was talking to another dad from their school who was in front of us. And then they were all off! We also missed Lanny Fratere :-(. I was hoping with Megs with us Lanny would oblige us a photo, since he and Megs are so tight. My mother would absolutely love it, a picture of the boys with Lanny. Maybe later in the season......
So of course, I have a few pictures of Myles and Crispian enjoying themselves. One of the games they played was a fly-ball catching. A pitching machine was set to pop them up. Crispian was ahead of us. Myles could barely contain himself as he watched Crispian take his turn.
When Myles' turn came, he grabbed a glove and ran out there.
Crispian also go to play this really cool interactive game being demonstrated by the Entertainment technology center of CMU. The table had four wheels on it, and you spun your wheel either to pitch, hit, or field. It was pretty cool.
And what would a visit to Piratefest be without an encounter with the Pirates Parrot?

Not only would Myles walk up to him this year, he wanted to "Give him five!" He talked about that later that night, that he gave the Parrot "High Five." Oh yeah, it was pretty funny, too, when the Parrot went up to my sister and said, "Hey Megan, what's up?"
So much appreciation do we owe to our benefactor for the day, Eric Wolf, in-field entertainment producer. He was so great to get us passes for the weekend that we really got to enjoy ourselves, play too many games, and even eat out afterwards. Big ups to Eric!

so..now that you live "burghish", are you going to go more often to Bucco games? You know my dad and uncle split season tickets right? they are about 8 rows back, a little to the right of 1st base-- so if nothing else--we CERTAINLY can meet up there! woohoo!
she still has enough friends there, though, to help us out when we need them, though!
