Oh what fun it is to attend a Christmas luncheon with friends-Oy!

On Saturday Myles and I went to my Alma Mater for an Alumni Lunch with Santa. For about $20 we got all the frozen pizza and chicken fingers we could eat, as well as a "creative" Christmas sing-a-long (as if there aren't nearly enough Christmas carols and songs out there, we sang S-A-N-T-A to the tune of "Bingo was his name-O" which should have really been and "Santa was his name, eh?" lending more credence to those who might theorize that Canadians are infiltrating the US) and a visit from Santa Claus himself that was brought on by all of us singing enthusiastically "Silent Night." But, for those of you keeping Ex Corde score, we did say a proper grace before the meal.
Some of my old classmates had read and laughed at the Harry Potter and Jesus story, not knowing that my fitness to be a parent was being debated elsewhere (I am assuming that Amy, a mother of children who likewise have interesting habits at Mass was also amused). And since I am now a Bad Mother of Note, you might appreciate this: Myles noticed that other children at our table were reading their Santa books. He wanted one of his own books, so we dug in the diaper bag, which is normally full of all kinds of his books and toys. However, in the first pocket I looked in, I could only find Revolutionary Road. To my friend LC who was sitting with me, I said, "Oh yes. I have no Santa books, but if he wants to read books about adultery, well, he's come to the right place." However, I did find in another pocket a Kipper book and a Miffy book. Problem solved. Innocence preserved.
It was a great time, though. I related to LC a funny bit I remember seeing on Kilborn with Snoop Dogg that was at Christmas time and he had to say "Ho" with different Snoop pronunciations to each of the 5 questions. Then she topped that by telling me about a Man Show episode she saw at work where Kimmel is visiting Snoop's house, bearing baked goods, saying, 'My b***h made you some muffins." Which of course led me to tell about hearing Sarah Silverman on Stern......Which I can't even write about here. I do have my blog-limits.
Oh yeah, and I took Myles up to see Santa. Like every other parent there I wanted a picture-perfect moment between Myles and Santa. The problem here is that I have instilled in him, or more likely he just comes by it naturally, a very strong sense of Stranger Danger. He would not sit on Santa's lap, but would stand in front of him and talk to him with me standing right there with him. I handed my camera to LC, and she took a few pictures. All I asked was that she got them with my legs together, since I just had to wear a skirt to this thing.

All the parents out there will recognize immediately what I am doing in this picture--asking Myles what he says to Santa for giving him a bag of candy.
And I will give you three guesses what Myles Christmas wish to Santa was. The first two don't count. :-)
