I saw these on CNN.com. The Library of Congress is showing color photographs from their collection taken in the late 1930s and early 1940s. They are so immaculate, so clear, that they almost look as though they could have been staged yesterday.
On NPR yesterday I heard an interview with Julius Shulman that was pretty good. At the age of 95 Shulman is still actively working--travelling to Euraop, returning to LA, early am flight to Philly teh next day kind of working. On the NPR website you can see the most famous Shulman image, "Case Study House #22." You can also see this, and if you listen to the interview you will hear what it is and you,too, can be suprised that Shulman likes it (prized possession even). The Getty in LA is honoring Shulman's 95th birthday and life's work with an exhibit that runs into next month. There are some more Shulman images on the Getty site.
