Words that actually came out of my mouth

Last week Myles and Crispian and I stopped at a coffee shop after school one afternoon. Even with Kate and Crispian daily fixtures in our lives, Myles still goes positively nuts in the company of Crispian, at least for the first 30 minutes or so. I have no idea how they started whatever they were doing while I was waiting in line, but it very quickly escalated to loud, excited yells as they pretended to hit each other (which looked like it was going to escalate further to someone getting hurt). So I asked them, with what I thought sounded like parental authority, "Can you please stop hitting each other and do something a little less noisy....like pretending to shoot each other."
WHAT DID I JUST SAY?
However, Myles took this cue to point his index finger at Crispian and began to hiss at him. That is his "shooting." He points something at you, his finger if a crayon, fork, or other gun-like thing is not handy, and hisses at you. I have no idea how this became shooting, but he clearly started it last month when we were at my aunt's at the beach.
And Crispian indulged him in some reciprocated "shooting."
And I ducked my head down to avoid any strange looks that were certainly directed my way.
