The rest of the story
When Randy was talking to Mike G, Mike was telling him about something in his electric co-op newsletter. For those of you that have never had a co-op utility, you join, they have meetings that you probably don't attend, sometimes even picnics, and you get newsletters. I noticed that what they advertise is true; my electricity was much cheaper from the rural co-op than it was with PECO.
ANYWAY, in the last newsletter Mike received before he moved out of Mississippi back to Kentucky, there was a report on the progress of repairs after Hurrican Katrina. You may remember hearing that 80% of Mississippi was without power for at least a week after the hurricane. In the newsletter, they reported that it was the first time in the history of that particular co-op that 100% of its customers were without power. Repairs were also slower than normal because it did not just involve the lines but whole towers and poles had to be set in place as well. In one picture the repair crew included the usual suspects in the usual equipment to set up the poles and lines in a swampy area. Above all this, standing on a bridge, is the most important member of this crew. The guy with the shotgun, watching for gators.
As Cindy Adams would say if she knew there is geography west and south of the Hudson, "Only in Mississippi, kids. Only in Mississippi."
