I don't see captioning becoming a mainstay on EWTN anytime soon, not unless the monthly donors can sustain a very large increase. (I assume the network is currently exempt from the FCC requirements because they're a nonprofit.) For prerecorded shows/docs our going rate is several hundred dollars per hour hour of programming -- and for live shows, like the ones EWTN features during their 8:00 hour each night, the rate would be much, much higher because the captions would have to be written live. I have no doubt there are companies who could offer a lower rate for the prerecorded shows, but there aren't too many that have the technology to handle live stuff. (You should see the bank of satellites outside our office building.)
