Ambrose for Miers!!!!!!!!!
Recently my cousin Denis linked to an Ann Coulter column where he pulled out the money quote, "Let me just say, if the top male lawyer in the country is John Roberts and the top female lawyer is Harriet Miers, we may as well stop allowing girls to go to law school."
I posted something to this effect in his combox, but I will do it here again, and go a little further. I have been thinking about the widesweeping outrage over the Miers nomination, from throughout our political spectrum. I just wonder, though, if from people like Coulter and other J.D.'s who now write/punditate for a living, the outrage isn't over Miers lack of constitutional law experience, or absence of jurist experience, but over the simple fact that she is a Southern Methodist University-educated lawyer. Not Harvard, or Yale, or Stanford (or even Michigan, Coulter's alma mater which is also considered upper echelon). I mean, if a Harvard law degree isn't your ticket to everything these days, and someone who went to where? SMU? can get on the Supreme Court, what the heck is the value of a Harvard JD anymore anyway? I mean other than just all those numbers after the dollar sign in your pay check.
So, on behalf of those of us who attend(ed) colleges and grad schools based not on their US News Rankings or reputations, but rather their proximity to where we live(d) at the time, and especially those who attend(ed) said schools for the convenience and easement of potential financial burdens on our families, I am putting my full support behind Miers for Supreme Court.
