If someone can please explain the McCain-haters in the Republican party for me?
This was on Fact-Check. Of course, not living in New Hampshire, I haven't seen the ad and I haven't had time to look for it it online. It appears Club for Growth, a Pat Toomey-led PAC, has specifically targeted John McCain as a proponent of the "death tax," which is referred to in the tax code as the estate tax. Fact Check, of course, found errors in the campaign.
I guess I don't understand why all the McCain haters in the Republican party. Last weekend someone said to me that he might as well join the Democrats, because he is half-way there, already. Huh? I didn't challenge him at all, because I prefer peace in the family to proving points. I mean, huh?
And I am wondering what Toomey's particular axe-to-grind with McCain is. I mean, his Senate campaign was torpedoed by the current Republican leadership, including the President and Sen. Santorum, in the primaries when they decided to get behind pro-choice but electable Sen. Specter, so that more money could be spent fighting Kerry in Pennsylvania, which worked for them. Though John Kerry did win Pennsylvania, it was at the expense of other narrowly-lost states. I hear some Republicans say that they will still be able to count on Specter in the Senate when it really matters (oh, there is legislation that doesn't matter?), blah blah, but how is that working for you? And since this is Specter's last term anyway, how much give is anyone really going to get from him? Did you see any of the Roberts hearings?
But most of all, I am very glad I do not live in New Hampshire. While they are proud of their early primary status, it would drive me nuts to see all these hopefuls clamoring for my attention only one year after the last presidential election.
