By the way

I think I have it figured out why the President is pushing the Roberts nomination through for Chief Justice.
He must believe (erroneously, probably) in a need to overhaul the Smithsonian.
Quick, write to your Senators NOW before something happens to Fonzie's jacket or the Ruby Slippers (one known pair has disappeared already--COINCIDENCE?). Your Senators need to know that our disposable pop culture preserved in a climate controlled environment with the seriously-academic-looking museum labels under them IS IMPORTANT! We will NOT forget!

Ruby slippers, you say? That reminds me of something kind of funny from last week on Real Time with Bill Maher...

MAHER: I want to – I want to say something in support of Judge John Roberts. I am totally for this guy getting confirmed—

BEHAR: You are.

MAHER: --and it's not for the same reason that the Republicans are. It's because I say – and I don't mean this facetiously – but I think – they don't know it, but they have appointed the first gay justice to the Supreme Court. [laughter]

BEHAR: Really?

MAHER: Absolutely. And, look, I live every day with comedy writers. Comedy writers think everything is gay. Westerns are gay. Romans are gay.

BEHAR: Yeah.

MAHER: So I'm very sensitive to, no, not everything is gay. But this guy is gay. [laughter] [applause] And it's not just because – not just because all his writings reveal a very caustic wit; not just because he seems to have a big problem with women; not just because his kids are adopted; not just because he played “Peppermint Patty” in college in a production of “You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” [laughter] But look at this picture right here. [photo shown] This is a picture of John Roberts – okay, straight men do not pose with food. [laughter] [applause] I'm just saying…

Then, there are other things like this...

So if those ruby slippers disappear, at least you'll know whose closet to look in. ;)

I know, I'm all sorts of wrong today.

DEA-Oh yeah, I am quite aware of the probability factors that Bush needs to consolidate the confirmations to as few as possible, I just thought I would make the most ridiculous statement I could....
pd--You may be on to something, except for the fact that Bill Maher sees marraige, children, and monogamy in general as gay ;-)
