Mississippi geography
In the combox below someone asked if the area of Mississippi where I lived suffered any damage from Hurricane Katrina. This evening watching the news I thought about how if you are unfamiliar with Mississippi geography, which most people are because until now it really isn't important, you could be confused about some of my posts. I lived outside of the city of Jackson, the state capital, which is not in Jackson County (it is in Hinds). Jackson County is one of the coastal counties, and suffered extensive damage and at least 10 fatalities.
I lived across the river and like east 10 miles from the star on the map above.
In tonight's update from the Jackson paper, this article outlined the damage that was around where we lived. Like I said in the combox below, pretty minimal.
I also said in the combox that the evacuee situation was going to be the bigger problem for the Jackson Metro. Without drinking water and electricity, even as far north as Jackson, we will probably start to hear more stories like this.
