My husband Hearts Wal-Mart

A few years ago, when I was a West Wing Junkie, Emily Proctor had this fantastic line that remains with me and Randy to this day. She was ripping Rob Lowe or Bradley Whitford a new one over something they said that was intended to sound like stereotypical New England liberal snob about the gun lobby (I barely remember what they said, that is how flat their line was). It wasn't great TV until Emily Proctor's line:
Is it that you don't like guns, or that you don't like the people who like guns?
BAM! What a moment. Randy and I had to look at each other and asked ourselves, "Who let that Hollywood writer expose the secret?" (joke! joke! calm down!)
This line has stayed with Randy and me ever since, mostly as our own code when we are discussing things we don't like about Rural America or the South. So when Randy called me after a 45-minute trip to the Canton, Mississippi Wally-World, which was a stopon the way home from work (which he still does until the end of the month) just to pick up some Drixoral, the first thing he says after my hello? is, "Is it that I don't like Wal-Mart, or that I don't like the people that populate Wal-Mart?"
I wouldn't even know where to begin.....
