I didn't realize Ann Coulter fans were also insomniacs

There is a really great blog post at Open Book using as its springboard to discussion a recent essay by one of Randy's favorite authors, Karen Armstrong. Oh man it is a thread to watch now. It is the kind of thread where people are going to say aggressively whacked out things and get quoted somewhere big, like Slate.Com, like when Rod Dreher from Dallas Morning News and NRO was quoted on the Andrew Sullivan blog. He didn't quote me and I was one of the three a-hem sensible posters that day on that thread. Of course, Sullivan quoted Dreher as humiliation. Funny thing about that was, he took the quote out of context to make it sound worse. I almost never agree with Dreher (except last week when he said he liked Breaking the Waves), but I really almost felt his pain that day. I mean, what he was saying was pretty bad anyway, but not as bad as Sullivan wanted to make him look. Or at least not the same kind of bad. It was still pretty bad. I am not about to make any excuses for Dreher.
Anyway, I am waiting for someone on the thread to deify Ann Coulter and her shoot the smelly people gauntlet. Really. I was so excited to read Amy's post, particularly the Armstrong Essay where Armstrong was searching for a word that best describes terrorism better than jihad, that it reminded me immediately of something I posted back in January about an essay on NPR about the use of the word jihad in Western Press affirming terrorism. The essayist, Anisa Mehdi, proposed a different word, heraba or something like that instead of jihad. As she said, if our headlines read to the Muslim world murder not martyr. hell-bound and not heaven-sent, maybe that can help.
