Saw this over at Open Book. The Germans are considering a Catholicity test as part of the granting of visas for the upcoming World Youth Day. Go ahead and take the test and see if you would be allowed (by the Germans, not the Catholic Church) to pilgrimage to see the Pope.
It scares me a little, and not because it is just a German thing. I mean, I could be all up and down this thing with humor and sarcasm (I will not be elevated to satire!), because as you know, I really like to make fun of all things German. I understand that the Germans have a right to protect their borders, and secure its wealth and welfare for its citizens. I cannot help but hope, however, that the Vatican intervene, somehow. I mean, who needs to see the Pope more, someone who can rattle off the deadly sins by rote memorization (or by the order of the movie Se7en), or someone who isn't quite sure why they are even called the Deadly Sins? Yeah, I think both need each other and the experience of World Youth Day. We are all works in progress.
