Overheard this past week
I overheard two people, both of whom I knew, talking about prayer in schools. Recently, a school district in Northwestern Pennsylvania was sued by the ACLU for the inclusion of an invocation and benediction in their graduation ceremonies. This has brought the subject of school prayer (and condemnation of the ACLU) back into daily discussion all around this rural, forgotten area.
The two people were tsk-tsk-ing the State of Things, where "They" are trying to take prayer out of everything these days. Now, I don't think that Christians have the monopoly on prayer, but neither of these two people attend any church with any regularity, if at all. I mean, if you want to have prayer, and be around prayer, and have your children exposed to prayer, why not take them somewhere where you are pretty sure there will be prayer? Why is is so important that your kids kneel before a football game, but in the rest of their lives, prayer is unheard-of?
It just struck me as kinda funny.
