Strange bedfellows

You know how on Survivor alliances are created on an as-needed basis, and sometimes these alliances are unlikely, even improbable in the "real" world?
Same thing happens in Blogosphere.
Yesterday at Open Book, Puritas Corbin, aka Lori, posted a comment thread in support of Grant Gallicho's argument. Puritas Corbin is the charter member of the soon-to-be-formed Archbishop Chaput Fan Club. Grant is an editor at Commonweal.
I had two posts this week, one of which quoting actual Church teaching is the best way to get ignored in a religious-themed blogs, the other that expanded on why I was going around quoting it. If you scroll down it wll be all the background you need.
Then Lori shows up on Open Book, guns blazing. Okay, not really guns blazing. Lori is much, much to, ummmm, Lori to be that. But her arguments are so effective:

Grant, I very rarely enter the fray here, and certainly not on argumentative threads like this one, but I thought you might like to know this, for what it's worth. I visited Amy's blog yesterday morning like usual and clicked on her link to the Miller site. I must admit, I thought his dissident book club ad was pretty funny when I first read it. I backed my browser up and was just about to leave a comment here saying just how funny I thought it was...and then I read your first comment in this thread. And I have to admit, it stopped me in my tracks. I thought, "You know what? He's right." However much I personally may have enjoyed it at first, I do agree with you that it's not fair to issue a blanket condemnation of all "progressives" and smear them as necessarily prochoice.

Earlier in the thread, Ambrose posted a paragraph number for a section in the Catechism, and so far it's been ignored. But that cuts to the heart of the issue for me; it's what made me think my initial enjoyment of Miller's satire says just as much about me as it does about Bishop Gumbleton or anyone else who was parodied -- and perhaps more. How about paragraph 2478? "To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor's thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way." I think Grant is just trying to make the case that we're not doing that in this case -- and most of us fail to do that all too often, if we're honest with ourselves.

She even got a thank you note in her email from Grant!!!! Wow!!! Do you know how many "progressive" Catholics would LOVE that. Of course it tickled Lori a bit, especially because the only other selebrity emial she has received was from Archbishop Chaput himself.
