Myles' Vocabulary
Last week Myles had a doctor's appointment in Pittsburgh. She asked about his vocabulary, and I said he spoke maybe 25-50 words, to which she responded with some pleasant surprise. This was a relief to me, because his speaking has not progressed as quickly as my neice Caetlyn who is only 6 months older than Myles. At this age Caetlyn was speaking very clear sentences. I am constantly comparing Myles' progress to hers, which in the long run will not be good for anyone exceot maybe my sister's ego (haha). Anyway, after the appointment I decided to try to make a list for Randy, so he could know what kinds of thing Myles has learned to say since the last time he was here. The list is over 100 words, and I don't know how good or bad that is. But I thought I would share some of the fun words. If I can get the phone blogging thing to work again, I will try to get him to say some of them so you can hear them. But some of his favorite words include:
Turtle (his favorite animal)
Shark
Dinosaur (it slays me when he says this)
Star
Trucks
Dump Truck
Jesus (he's a "Jesus spotter")
Oval
Circle
Noodles (and when he says this he specifically means Vietnamese take-out)
Grave Digger (yes, a monster truck)
Easy
Coffee
Please (which of course comes out more like Peas, but with twinkly eyes and an irresistible smile)
No (of course--he can't even say yes; he just nods his head)
That is a few of his favorites. And then there is the word Purple. He says this word so clearly, and yet, I have no idea what he thinks purple means. At first I thought he actually was already picking up on color recognition, which sometimes he seems to do with other colors occassionally, but then he has used it in an insistent manner when there was nothing purple around. I have a feeling that Purple might mean crayons, chalk, markers, or any of those sorts of child's art supplies, but then he uses it when he doesn't have any of those. The only thing I can think of so far is that he inherited Randy's color-blindness, which is not the typical red-grey variety, but rather one that consolidates a lot of shades and even colors in his perception. I hope we get to figure out what Purple means.
