I'm watching the U.S. official delegation at the Pope's viewing

Both Condi Rice and Laura Bush are wearing communion veils. Huh? I know they are being respectful, but did someone forget to tell them that no one wears them anymore? I wonder where they got them.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's standard protocol for women in government delegations to wear a mantilla when visiting with the Pope in the Vatican. I assume they're carrying it over now as a sign of respect for the Holy Father. It might be amusing to dig up some photos of Hillary Clinton in one when she visited the Vatican (I'm assuming she did at some point). I would imagine she looks pretty nonplussed in the photo. :)

Oh, okay. I thought maybe they just copied Jackie Kennedy's funeral outfit from 1963, thinking, hey this must be what people look like when they are going to a Catholic funeral.
I wonder, though, if Condi is wearing her famous boots :-)
