Tonight in Pittsburgh

So tonight we made our regular trip to the Carnegie Library in Oakland for the Baby LapSit, or as we rather politically incorrectly sometimes call it, Baby Lap Dance. I go to this at the library when I am in Pittsburgh because it is free and it is 45 minutes where I don't have to think of what to do with Myles and I am not tempted just to turn on Kipper. In fact, I go to almost every session that is scheduled (most people just go to one specific time once a week--not us!). Kate had some stuff going on tonight, so Crispian came with us. After the session of songs and rhymes and games, the babies were playing with some of the toys and Myles' favorite librarian Debbie talked to Crispian. Through most of the Lapsit, Crispian kept himself pretty much occupied with some books on volcanos and rocks. Debbie noted that to Crispian, to which he replied that he was particularly interested in crystals and their formation. Yeah, not just rocks are cool. Debbie asked Crispian how old he was and she was completely surprised that he said six. She was further surprised that he was only in kindergarten! As some of you may have heard me tell again and again, Crispian has some pretty sophisticated tastes. He was telling Debbie that he was going to the art galleries on Penn for the First Fridays and how much he loved galleries and art museums. She asked him who his favorite artist was and he replied (with perfect pronunciation), Vincent Van Gogh.

You can't blame him, can you? We can see this painting at the Carnegie in Pittsburgh. Anyway, another night where Crispian made me so proud.
After we got back from the library and the boys went to bed, Meggie stopped by and told me it was "Mad Snowing." She opened the window and these enornous flakes were just coming down like in the last scenes of It's a Wonderful Life. In fact, from Kate's front windows you can see right down a narrow street, and it kinda looks like an old-time photograph at night when it is snowing so hard, devoid of color, just snow and glowing street lamps and snowy shapes.
It's a good thing Crispian was already in bed. We didn't need another potential snow day to keep him awake with anticipation.
