Geniuses run the NFL
The NFL have so many constructs that keep the NFL and its teams in the news almost in perpetuity. Sometimes this backfires (Rae Carruth, Ray Lewis), but usually it is just plain genius. I mean, how many other professional leagues get this much press in its off-season? NASCAR doesn't count because its off-season is shorter than some schools' spring break.
So some fun in the free agency: the Giants have passed officially today on Plax. Yesterday the columnists all but had a $20 mill 4 or 5 year contract with the Giants signed and in his hands. After 2 offers, the Giants have left Plax without a home. One of the sports papers said that the Giants were looking at Plax as the deep threat they need to utilize fully Eli. Eli needs to be able to connect to Tiki before he starts tossing long bombs. But that is just my opinion. One of the Pittsburgh channels has Plax going next to---Minnesota. I want to feel bad for him, and I kinda do. He did put up some outstanding numbers for the Steelers, so much so no one remembers what made him most famous in his rookie year. I don't see Plax getting much more than $3.5 mill a year at this point. There are just too many receivers out there and he ain't all that as a deep threat.
Can I write off the Colts for next season? They have announced that they are willing to trade the Edg. This completely blows my mind. They may even settle for a less-than-first round draft pick? For a healthy, 26-year-old rusher among rushers? Of course I have to question Edgerrin's head right now; its rumored he wants to go to Miami. Thanks to Meg for alerting me to this story this morning.
And the most interesting plot twist in Pittsburgh today was---TY LAW was in town, paying what seems to be an official visit. TY LAW!
