Wine and Chocolate
This weekend Kate and I (along with Myles of course) went to a Wine and Chocolate event at Kane's own Flickerwood Winery. This winery as a commercial enterprise has been around for only a few years and is owned by my friend Julie Zampogna's parents. The winery business has become a family thing--Julie's brother Rick and his wife Sharon work there and Julie designs the labels.
In honor of THAT DAY that speaks not its name (hehehe) they had a special wine tasting. For $5 you got 5 glasses of wine matched to different chocolate things, like brownies or dark chocolates. Most of the chocolates also came from a small "cottage" business, Chocolates by Evie. These are made by my former co-worker (and Kate's and my friend) Tom Orzetti's mother-in-law and are sold at their store, That Natural Store.
Small world, huh. That's Kane.
Anyway, the wine and chocolate pairings were very nice. Oh Corbin I thought of you now that you imbibe. My favorite Flickerwood wine and chocolate duet was not on the tasting menu. It was one that I found by accident, though Ron Zampogna agreed it was a very good thing. They have a wine called Leon Millet, a red wine that is really dry enough that you would normally serve it with dinner, but one night I couldn't wait to eat a chocolate chip cookie and OMGoodness. It was soooooo good. It reminded me at that time of a red wine (might have been their Pinot Noir) I had tried with I went to a tasting at Sandcastle in Bucks County. We were to try the wine after biting into a piece of rosemary and then again after eating a piece of chocolate. I love it when wines can go with so many different things.
And how did Myles fair? He went from manageable to disagreeable to happy once he was given a helium balloon with which to play. Or as he calls it bao-oon.
