Insider report: Ambrose--not a boy

A few days ago I wrote to Amy Welborn (see Open Book link to the left) with a question about one of her books. I signed the e-mail, "Jennifer Ambrose, aka one of your foolish posting fans Ambrose." Occasionally when I am feeling brave or full of myself I have responded to her blog postings, and the signature that shows up is just "Ambrose." In Amy's emailed response she mentioned that all this time she thought Ambrose was a boy. I have sometimes posted things that start with "When I was working..." so I wonder if she thought I was a college-aged boy or a retired old man. If after I had linked to one of her postings (and oh great because I think the only time I did that was when I said I liked her but some of her readers are crackpots), she came over here and read some of my stuff, she would probably think I was the wussiest man alive. Or maybe she saw all the sports stuff, too, and thought I must be some sort of pathetic wuss.
And then I thought about some of the other posters that respond to me directly in the comments section. They probably assume I am a boy, too. I wonder if that gave my arguments any weight with some of the men. I've gone back and looked at a few times when another woman has taken me to task for something I have said. I can now imagine some of them saying, well, who does HE think he is, and they give me very measured rebuttals.
I could be imagining the whole gender-reaction-thing altogether. But if I had known I was masquerading as a boy, I would have wreaked much more havoc on the blogworld. You know, being a boy is a free pass to recklessness :-)

I met a few women at Seton Hill whom I initially mistook for a man (I believe you mention one in a post below), but you were never one of them. :-)

Is that why you wouldn't take me to the prom?

Ambrose is definitely a girl. I belive the origins of her being called "Ambrose" instead of "Jen" begain in high school physics class and a teacher known to some as "Dr. Bob"

Whenever he would call on her (either for an answer, or to encourage her to "shut up") he would bark, "Ambrose!"

Mystery solved. Anything else you want to know about her? hehehehe nah better not... she knows too much about me...
