Final dispatch from Grandma Ambrose
I'm a few weeks late getting this posted, but thought you might like the conclusion to the story we were following. It is so eerie, for me at least, to go back and read her reports and see the pictures from the Indian Ocean leg of her trip. So many places she visited and countless people she may have just seen on the streets or helped her in a shop----all gone now.

Sent: Tuesday, December 14, 2004 7:44 AMSubject: TripHi to All,Latest on our trip:Monday, Dec. 13th...Arrived in Richard's Bay, south Africa (have been on 6 continents!) and leftby bus for our Safari! Drove 90 minutes north to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park,one of the oldest game preserves in So. Africa.got in an open air 4WD vehicle and saw lots of animals. We drove around(just like on TV) for several hours and saw elephant (no pic), rhino.giraffe, impalas, warthosg, monkeys, buffalo, zebra, etc. No lions orothers like that.After that we stopped at a Zulu Krall (village) and had a wonderfuldemonstration of what goes on in a typical Zulu village. Very informative.Then back to the ship and to the movies to see Shrek 2.Today, Tuesday, December 14th,after we arrived in Durban, So. Africa, wewent on another safari (half day) to a private game reserve, Tala, in acanvas-topped 4 WD vehicle, and saw more animals. This one was better thanthe previous because it was not so large in area (7000 hectares) and hadmuch more open plains which made it easier to see the animals. We sawrhino, buffalo, giraffe, hippo (only their noses 'cause they don't come outof the water until night time), waterbuck, windebees, zebra, impala,blesbuck, ostrich and other beautiful birds. Lots of babies too, sinceSeptember to November is birthing time. Again, no predators because theyhave neighbors that have farms with the usual farm animals. Anotherwonderful experience.We took lots of pics.We sail tonight for Capetown, around Cape of Good Hope and the end of ourcruise on the 17th. We have been able to sign up for a tour of Capetownbefore our plane leaves at 6:45 pm.
