Grandma Ambrose in the Seychelles

Grandma and Aunt Barbara sent this today. I have a picture from the Seychelles port I need to get on this blog. Even the commercial port has a beautiful view!

Hi All,

The satellite was out for a few days.  Evidently, it is not available in all

parts of the world. But here we are now;

All is going well.  We had 4 days at sea, went from the Arabian Sae to the

Indian Ocean, which I told you, crossed the Equator (again), and sailed

merrily along in the Ocean which is very calm.  Lots of sunning, reading and

relaxating.  Not too much eating, 'cause we are watching "it"!

Any way, days are wonderful and evenings are wonderful.

Today we landed on the Seychelles Islands - Mahe, to be precise, at the

capitol city, Victoria.  Very interesting.  They were first discovered in

1505 and various countries have claimed them since.  Now they are

independant and self-governing.

The islands are mostly granite ones with some that are coral.  Water around

them is lovely and beaches are fabulous.  Took lots of pics on our tours,

(diffent one for both of us).

they have to import most everything and tourism is their main source of

income. They are a mix of Africans, Indians, Chinese, English, Portugese,

Spanish, Australian, etc.  Whatever came, some stayed.  Thier language is

Creole, a patoir of french, english, etc.  All go to school and speak

English.

It being Sunday, not much was open, but we did get a good feeling of the

island from the tour guides. Their religion is 90% Catholic.

There are some very large ocean-going fishing boats here. they go out for

months at a tiem.



Tomorrow we sail for Mauritius and then Reunion Island before actually

landing in Africa.
