German study concludes Computers may not enhance Learning

Unlike my other posts that have the word German in them, this will not make fun of all things German. Sorry if that disappoints you.
This article on a huge German study that was conducted recently on the value of computers to students' learning, either in the home or at school. You can read the whole article but this excerpt says it all without all the statistical and conditional mumbo stuff.

In fact, the study says, "The mere availability of computers at home seems to distract students from learning." Computers seem to serve mainly as devices for playing games.

Still, there were a few exceptions: Academic performance rose among those who routinely engaged in writing e-mail or running educational software.
